OKNANOLAB, led by Prof. Jong G. Ok, drives discovery, development, and application of innovative materials, structures, and systems, particularly through large-scale assembly of small-scale building blocks (like playing LEGO). We strive to engineer micro- and nanoscale features and phenomena possessing extraordinary properties and versatile functionalities into tangible and society-bolstering solutions involving: • Advanced mechanical machining and manufacturing systems based on novel but sustainable design & process principles, • Next-generation electronics, optics, and photonics, • Large-area functional surfaces and micro/nanopatterns, and • Practical devices for quenching global thirst on energy, transportation, and healthcare.
Easier creation of cutting-edge but real-useful engineering solutions is what matters to us. Standing up from the small-scale basis of functional nanomaterials and structures, we head toward the large-scale real-world innovation, by creatively integrating them into hybrid nanoarchitectures comprising complementary nanostructures, and by scalably engineering them into more pragmatic architectures/patterns via continuous nanomanufacturing methodologies. Along such a route, we are always happy and appreciate to find easier and cost-effective directions by navigating more robust and well-matured mechanical engineering disciplines.
